Spring Term

It’s all go in Year 6 as we prepare for the up and coming SATs tests in May.  I have to say that all of our children have worked extremely hard in order to go into the tests confidently and able.  I am very proud of each and every one of them.  Could I urge you to help your children at home, by practising times tables and encouraging your children to read every night.

We have had a very busy spring term so far with lots of exciting events. On Wednesday 1st February we went to the MEN arena where the children were part of the Young Voices choir. It was a brilliant day – we all laughed, danced and sang our hearts out and their behaviour was impeccable.

Mini Vinnies is up and running involving 12 representatives from years 3-6. Callum, Lewis and Izzy are our y6 representatives. The Mini Vinnies is a group developed from the Society of St Vincent De Paul. Our Mini Vinnies meet every Wednesday to discuss ways to raise money for people in need around the world.

The children’s times tables are really improving in class 6. Each week we have times tables tests and they get the next addition to their ice cream bowl once they have achieved full marks. During the summer term, each child will have the equivalent numbers of scoops they have earned in a real ice cream sundae!

We now have a Blessings tree in year 6. We realised that we all have a lot to be thankful for so we have put these onto our blessings tree.

On Wednesday 15TH February we had a very exciting visit from Manchester Museum. They brought their very own pop up museum to school. In the afternoon we went down to the pop up museum in the hall. We worked in groups looking at animal skulls, trying to identify which animals they were and thinking of imaginative stories about these objects that may have been told in Victorian times.

On Wednesday 1st March, KS2 went to the Bridgewater hall to watch the amazing Halle orchestra. They played different music from Scotland, Ireland and Wales and even got all the audience up to join in the dancing. We all had a wonderful time and behaved fantastically.

Throughout this term in PE we have been learning street dance moves and routines with Hannah and Terri. On Tuesday the 14th February we performed our routine in front of the school.

On Friday 4th March we celebrated World Book Day with our time travel theme. We had Albert Einstein, Michael Jackson, the Cheshire cat, the queen of hearts, a group of hippies, Little Red Riding Hood, Darth Vader and many more. Everybody looked fantastic! We had a parade and quiz in the morning and then world book day activities in class. It was a brilliant day!
